Gran Turismo is shaping up to be a must-watch movie this summer, especially when its main star, Archie Madekwe, had to vomit a lot while filming.
Difficult Road
According to an article, Madekwe said that the entire experience made him realize that he was never cut out to be a racecar driver. Due to Gran Turismo's challenging stunts, Madekwe had to open the car door multiple times just to throw up.
He also jokingly referred to his car as the "Iron Maiden" because that vehicle made him feel like he was in a "true torture device."
Despite the difficult things he went through, he still pulled off an impressive feat. He managed to finish all of his stunts even though he had never driven a car before joining Gran Turismo.
Get Ready for Action
Madekwe's co-star, David Harbour of Stranger Things, was blown away by the authenticity of it all. Harbour, who portrays Jack Salter in the movie, said that the team went to different countries to film fast cars as they speed through real race tracks.
He added: "There's an anger to the sounds of the cars, to the asphalt, to the pneumatic guns that are used to take off the tires."
Based on what he said, it looks like the viewers, particularly racing fans, are in for a wild ride when Gran Turismo arrives in theaters this August.
The Plot
For those who don't know, the Gran Turismo movie is based on the real-life journey of Jann Mardenborough - a highly skilled player recruited to become a professional racecar driver. He receives training from Jack Salter, who will do whatever it takes to make sure Mardenborough is equipped to handle the challenges that come with his line of work.
The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp, popularly known for his work on District 9 and Elysium. This is Blomkamp's first attempt at a video game adaptation, and a racing movie at that, so it will be interesting to see what a sci-fi director can do.
Even though the movie is based on a true story, it is rumored to have elements that Gran Turismo fans will love, such as cool-looking racing cars and high-octane action.
Other stars who will join Madekwe and Harbour include:
- Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings)
- Geri Halliwell (Spice World)
- Daniel Puig (Naomi)
- Josha Stradowski (The Wheel of Time)
- Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
